Echo Studio Smart Speaker Review: Is It Worth the Hype?

Echo Studio smart speaker was launched top-tier smart speaker in the autumn of 2019, by Amazon. Despite expectations for a new iteration to be released by the end of 2022, Amazon chose to enhance their existing Echo devices by improving the spatial audio processing to deliver deeper bass and clearer sounds. They also released a new white version of the speaker.

The Echo Studio can be a vital part of our living room. It serves as a high-quality and robust pseudo-sound bar for watching movies with the family. Also, it is our go-to speaker for playing music, with Alexa routines to set the mood and change the color of our smart lights when the kids say “It’s party time!”

Echo Studio Features

The Echo Studio is a premium smart speaker from Amazon that boasts an impressive set of features. With 3D audio, Dolby Atmos, and high-fidelity sound, the speaker offers a top-notch listening experience. The built-in Alexa functionality allows for voice control of music and smart home devices, while the speaker also serves as a smart home hub with support for both Zigbee and Matter protocols.

Inside the Box

When we received the Echo Studio, unboxing it turned out to be quite a challenge. We admit, We’ve been guilty of complaining about the size of a product after purchasing it without checking the dimensions, but this time it was us. The speaker looked sleek and full-sized, but it was surprisingly massive and heavy.

Fortunately, the large size wasn’t a deal breaker for us. We were impressed that Amazon had done away with plastic packaging, and the speaker arrived wrapped in a reusable cloth Alexa bag inside a cardboard box.

We opted for the Glacier White color, which looked clean and modern in my home. Compared to the Charcoal color, it seemed more stylish and up-to-date. Besides, we find black speakers reminiscent of subwoofers from early 2000s McMansions, so we appreciated having more color options.

Design

The Echo Studio is a beast of a smart speaker, delivers powerful, room-filling, and immersive audio. It’s not a speaker that can be tucked away on a small shelf; it’s meant to be the centerpiece of your entertainment system. The speaker is 8.1 inches tall, 6.9 inches in diameter, and weighs 7.7 pounds. The Echo Studio has four buttons at the top to control Alexa, adjust the volume, and mute the mic.

A light ring at the top of the speaker indicates when Alexa is listening, when a notification is available, or when the volume is adjusted. The speaker features a 5.25-inch woofer, three 2-inch midrange speakers, and a 1-inch tweeter, all of which are designed to deliver a wide soundstage and deep bass. The horizontal gap at the bottom of the speaker allows for the free flow of audio, creating an even more immersive listening experience.

How to Set Up Echo Studio Smart Speaker

During the setup process, the Echo Studio uses its built-in microphones to automatically calibrate itself to the acoustics of the room it’s in. This involves playing a series of test tones and measuring the response from the room. Then, adjusting the speaker’s output to optimize the sound for the specific space it’s in. This helps ensure that you get the best possible audio experience from the Echo Studio, regardless of where it’s placed in your home.

Audio Quality

The Echo Studio’s spatial audio feature, powered by Dolby Atmos technology. This allows for a three-dimensional audio experience that creates a sense of space and directionality in the sound. This is achieved through the use of multiple speakers and advanced algorithms that can place sound objects in specific locations in a room. The result is a more immersive audio experience that can enhance music, movies, and even video games.

Echo Studio Speaker Connectivity

In addition to the music streaming services you mentioned, the Echo Studio also supports other audio sources. For example, Bluetooth and 3.5 mm aux input. And while Amazon Music Unlimited does offer high-quality audio, users can still enjoy excellent sound quality with other streaming services or even their own personal music libraries. It’s all about finding the audio source that suits your preferences and needs.

It’s great to hear that the Echo Studio has worked well for you as a speaker for your TV. Well, it’s definitely a versatile device with its line-in and optical-in ports. The fact that it supports Zigbee and Matter is also a major plus. it can serve as a hub for a variety of smart home devices. Overall,

Sound Quality

It sounds like you’re quite happy with your Echo Studio and all its capabilities, from its top-notch sound quality to its versatility as a smart speaker, smart home hub, and TV speaker. While you acknowledge that it may not be the right choice for everyone, you believe that it’s a great option for anyone who have invested in the Alexa ecosystem and looking for a high-quality speaker or soundbar. Overall, you consider the Echo Studio to be the best-sounding Echo speaker currently on the market.

Competitor

The new HomePod is definitely a strong contender in the smart speaker market, especially for Apple users. With its integration with the Apple ecosystem, it offers seamless control of your Apple devices and services. For example, Apple Music, Apple TV, and HomeKit-enabled devices.

In terms of sound quality, the HomePod is popular for its exceptional audio performance. It has deep, rich bass and clear, detailed vocals. It uses a unique technology called “Spatial Audio,” which creates an immersive, three-dimensional soundstage that fills the room.

However, it’s important to note that the HomePod is not as versatile as the Echo Studio. It only supports Apple Music and a few other streaming services. Also, it doesn’t have as many smart home integration options as the Echo Studio.

Ultimately, whether the HomePod or the Echo Studio is the best choice for you will depend on your personal preferences. Also, it depends on the ecosystem you have invested in.
